Wife Disappears OVERBOARD — Husband’s Dark Past Surfaces

Brian Hooker walked free from a Bahamian jail after five days of detention connected to his wife’s disappearance from a small boat off Great Abaco Island. Despite his release, authorities retain the power to arrest him again as the investigation continues into Lynette Hooker’s vanishing on April 4.

Five Days Behind Bars

Bahamian police held the 58-year-old Michigan retiree at Freeport’s Central Police Station from Wednesday through Monday evening. Officers detained him beyond the standard 48-hour limit under special circumstances while investigating alongside the U.S. Coast Guard. His attorney, Terrel Butler, confirmed he will stay in the Bahamas to assist with the ongoing search for his missing wife.

The Night She Disappeared

Hooker reported that choppy waters and strong wind gusts capsized their eight-foot dinghy as they left a harbor restaurant near Elbow Cay. He claims Lynette fell overboard during the incident. After drifting approximately four miles, he washed ashore at Marsh Harbour, where a security guard at a boatyard contacted authorities. Hooker initially cooperated with search efforts before his Wednesday detention.

Family Allegations Surface

The case took a darker turn when family members raised abuse concerns. Karli Aylesworth, Hooker’s stepdaughter, told media outlets she witnessed him choking one of his daughters years earlier, leading to court proceedings. She described a pattern of troubling behavior that now casts doubt on his account of the boating accident. Despite these allegations, no formal charges have been filed against Hooker.

What Happens Next

Hooker plans to meet with Bahamian police Tuesday to retrieve confiscated electronics, including his phone and computer. His passport status remains unclear, though his attorney emphasized his commitment to continuing the search. Hooker released a statement expressing heartbreak over the accident and calling Lynette his beloved wife. The Royal Bahamas Police Force maintains jurisdiction and can detain him again if investigators deem it necessary as the search continues for any trace of the missing American woman.
